The district’s four priorities

People were asked to rank GCPS’ four district priorities, and to say how well the district is doing on each.

  • Empathy
    • Understanding and valuing the experiences of others
    • Creating a culture of belonging, wellbeing, and support
  • Equity
    • Ensuring every student has access to opportunities and support
    • Addressing individual needs so each student can reach their full potential
  • Effectiveness
    • Achieving results through continuous improvement and accountability
    • Building systems, talent, and resources that support student success
  • Excellence
    • Pursuing outstanding outcomes for students, staff, and schools
    • Preparing every student for success in college, career, and life

Ranking the four priorities

Ranked 1st Ranked 4th  ·  darker means placed higher

Effectiveness has the widest support, even though it is rarely anyone's first pick

Each row is one priority, showing where all 422 people placed it from first to fourth. Darker means a higher placement. Read the two darkest segments together: that is the share who put it in their top two.

Four horizontal bars, one per priority, each split into first, second, third and fourth place. Effectiveness has the largest top-two share at 60 percent despite only 15 percent ranking it first. Excellence is 56 percent top-two but polarised, with 43 percent ranking it first and 29 percent last. Equity is 49 percent and Empathy 36 percent.

Priority In their top two Ranked 1st Ranked 2nd Ranked 3rd Ranked 4th
Effectiveness 55% 18% 37% 27% 18%
Excellence 53% 37% 17% 15% 32%
Equity 52% 25% 26% 28% 21%
Empathy 40% 20% 20% 31% 29%

A fourth-place ranking means less urgent than the other three right now. It does not mean people think a priority is unimportant.
